strange output... why is it using fortune as a conf-file?

I am using the kde-experimental overlay and am running into various problems I want to try and fix, so I thought I might try that here. Fortune is run from my /etc/profile but how does it end up here?

You have your system misconfigured. /etc/profile mustn't output anything when sourced for a non-interactive shell.
